New project on inner-ring road gets underway

NT Bureau
Chennai, Feb 1:

Retd Superintending Engineer Highways V Kuppan, Chairman, Alandur Municipality
R S Bharathy and Chief Engineer - Project Pon Shanmugham at the bhoomi puja
held today for the southern sector inner ring road at Thillai Ganga Nagar.

The long-pending southern sector of the inner-ring road connecting NH-45 from the OTA (St Thomas Mount) to Velachery railway station commenced with bhoomi puja being performed today near the Sri Karumariamman temple, Thillai Ganga Nagar.

With the work on the northern and central sectors having been already completed, the balance work of the southern sector link road will be a two-year project costing Rs 32.40 crore excluding the bridge work across Adambakkam which is a separate one costing around Rs 10 crore.

This is a very vital link road, providing direct connectivity to the IT Corridor from the airport and southern Chennai and would (hopefully) help ease traffic congestion at Kathipara junction, Halda and at Madhya Kailash.

The Bhoomi puja was held today as it happened to be an auspicious day.

Chief Engineer - Project Pon Shanmugham, Chairman, Alandur Municipality R S Bharathy, Retd Superintending Engineer, Highways V Kuppan and the contractors participated in the function.
