Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced the appointment of Vice-Chancellors for the newly-established technical universities in the State on the lines of Chennai-based Anna University.
Accordingly, R Radhakrishnan has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Coimbatore and V Ramachandran of Anna University, Tiruchi. Both are presently professors in Anna University, an official press here release said.
It may be noted that the DMK government had got a Bill passed in the Assembly last year for the establishment of two more technical universities. The Bill stated that Anna University after became the affiliating university for engineering colleges in the State in 2001, had to manage the affairs of 240 engineering colleges which had become a 'near impossibility.'
Hence, the government decided
to set up two more technical universities to ensure better and effective
monitoring of engineering colleges.
