Wipro Technologies has initiated an industry-academia interface to train the engineering faculty and enable students of engineering stream to cope up with the needs of the corporate world, Announcing this at a press meet here recently, Wipro Limited executive vice-president, Human Resources, Pratik Kumar said, 'we are addressing this problem specifically after noticing the vast manpower requirement of the company.'
He said the company was working out a meeting of Vice-Chancellors and heads of institutions from various States to initiate a scheme to enhance the teaching skills of the faculty.
On the enhancement of work force, he said Wipro has plans to sustain its aggressive hiring, increase retention and leverage workforce streams. Underlining the women-friendly policies followed in Wipro, Pratik claimed Wipro to be the first IT company in India to offer telecommuting and extended maternity leave with over 13,000 women employees.
Wipro has also proposed plans to set up a centre this year in Sholinganallur on 102 acres of land and another facility at Mahindra city on 95 acres of land.
The other operating centres in Chennai are at Guindy, Teynampet and in Pallikaranai.
Significantly, Tamilnadu
contributes about 25 per cent of Wipro's campus talent pool and the Wipro
Academy of Software Excellence(WASE) program has the highest intake from
the State.
