More flights to Malaysia

        Malaysia Airlines will increase its present flight frequency from its southern India gateways of Chennai and Bangalore.

        From Chennai, the airline's flight frequency will now be enhanced to nine weekly flights from current seven flights per week, while from Bangalore the flight capacity will be increased to four weekly flights from current three weekly flights. The additional Chennai flights will be operational from 28 October 2007 onwards on Thursday and Sunday at 12.50 pm. While the additional Bangalore flight will start operating from 3 November

        2007, every Saturday at 10 pm. With these flight enhancements Malaysia Airlines overall seat capacity from Chennai and Bangalore gateway will be increase to 3607 seats from present 2920 seats. The airline will operate Airbus 330-300 and Airbus 330-200 on these routes.

        Elaborating on this Christopher Yek, regional manager, South Asia, Malaysia Airlines, said, 'Chennai and Bangalore are amongst the prominent growing gateways for Malaysia Airlines - South Asia operations, contributing significantly to increased passenger's movement and yields.

        With these flight enhancements, operational as per the northern winter schedule the airline is optimistic of increasing the passenger yields from these Southern Indian gateways. This enhanced capacity will efficiently be able to meet the approaching Indian festivities and year-end holiday season.

        Malaysia Airlines under its Business Turnaround Plan (BTP) has successfully posted a net profit of RM 113 million for Q2 financial year. This marks the airline's 4th successive quarter of net profit since the launch of its Business Turnaround Plan (BTP) in February 2006, and tracks well for Malaysia Airlines to achieve its stretch profit target of RM 300 to RM 700 million this year.

        With the addition of three new flights, Malaysia Airlines will now operate 30 weekly flights from its present five gateways in India. The airline operates daily flights from New Delhi and Mumbai and thrice weekly flights from Hyderabad apart from nine weekly flights from Chennai and four weekly flights from Bangalore gateways respectively. Internationally, Malaysia Airlines is recognized as one of Asia's largest, flying passengers to some 100 destinations across 6 continents everyday. The airline holds a lengthy record of service and best practices excellence having received more than 100 awards in the last 10 years.
