        North Chennai is notorious for sale of pirated VCDs. And as a proof to this, the City Crime Branch police seized 1,500 pirated CDs and arrested six persons at Tiruvottiyur and Broadway yesterday.

        Acting on complaints on circulation of pirated VCDs, a special team carried out the raid in a few pavement shops and found pornographic VCDs and latest Tamil movies including Pokkiri, Alwar, Thamirabharani among others all worth Rs 8 lakh.

        The arrested were Kakim Raja (23) of Broadway, S Nagarajan (40) of Tiruvottiyur, Ashok (28) of Ernavoor, Kavimani (43) of Tiruvottiyur, S Dhanasekaran (23) and Musthafa (37) of Anna Nagar.

        They were lodged in Puzhal prison. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner issued a stern warning that the people who deal with pirated VCDs would be sternly dealt with as per law.
