Chennai, Feb 3:
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would flag off the second phase of free distribution of colour TVs at Pammathukulam village in Tiruvallur district on 15 February.
On the same day, Ministers would distribute the CTVs in other districts of Tamilnadu at similar functions. It may be recalled, Karunanidhi had announced on Pongal that the second phase of the free CTV scheme, expected to benefit 25 lakh poor families, would be taken up on 15 February.
The free colour TV scheme that had caught the imagination of the poor was one of the poll promises of the DMK which had also found in place in the budget presented by the DMK-led ruling alliance.
On the birth anniversary
of former Chief Minister C N Anna Durai (15 September) last year, Karunanidhi
launched the first phase of the free CTV scheme at Padappai, the birth
place of his mentor, in Kancheepuram district. The next day, State Ministers
distributed TV sets in rest of the districts of Tamilnadu, covering 30,000
beneficiaries in the first phase.
