Insurance cover for farmers

        To help farmers who incurred loss in cultivation, the Horticulture Department is considering to arrange insurance cover for them, Selvaraj, Joint Director of Horticulture has said.

        According to a press release, around 7,300 hectare of land are used for potato, cabbage, carrot and beans cultivation in the Nilgiri district.

        Also, over 830 hectare of land are used for cultivation of fruits and 32 hectare of land for flowers.

        Since, they are exposed to natural calamities like ground frost and attacks of weeds, pest and fungus, the farmers had to face huge loss.

        Hence, the Horticulture Department is considering to provide them insurance cover, he said.
