City students hog limelight

      Two school students from Chennai bagged awards at the Southern India Science Fair 2007 held at the NLIE Society's Rotary English Medium School, Hubli, Karnataka and at the 33rd State Level Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition in Madurai.

        The students - B Aravindan and M Jeeva, standard X, M Ct Muthiah Chettiar Hr. Sec. School, participated in both these events and bagged awards for their model on 'Mechanical Eye for the Blind and Deaf' at Hubli and for their 'Transport and Communication' model in Madurai.

        The Southern India Science fair was organised by the Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT), Government of Karnataka and Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore.

        The mechanical eye is a walking stick, that comprises of LDR photo sensors, sound sensor, vibrators, wheel, 2 volt batteries and a stick, to help physically challenged people cross the road. The students will participate in the National Science Fair to be held shortly.
