        Uday Sankar Roy has taken over as managing director and CEO of SBI Life Insurance Co Ltd. He replaces S Krishnamurthy, who retired on 31 January, 2007.

Roy joined State Bank of India in January 1972 as a probationary officer. During his tenure in SBI for 34 years he has held various positions, covering different functions as he moved up the corporate ladder.         He held key assignments as the chief general manager of SBI's Bengal circle. Besides, managing the banking operations, he has also headed SBI's IT Department at Belapur, Mumbai.         His participation will bring to SBI Life a wealth of experience in managing large establishments, business units and strong execution capabilities, which will be critical in SBI Life's next stage of aggressive growth.         On his appointment, Roy said, 'This will be a very exciting and challenging assignment, as life insurance sector showing scorching growth.
