        An elderly woman fell victim to a thief who tried to snatch her chain, however he was caught by the public and handed over to police.

        According to police, the burglar, later identified as Haja Hussain, tried to dupe Lurthu Mary (70) of Sharma Nagar when she went to purchase vegetables last evening in the nearby market. He engaged the woman in a conversation by promising her gold biscuits and tried to snatch her gold chain. The old lady shouted for help. Immediately, passersby came to her rescue and caught the man. The public handed him over to MKB police station.

        Police, on enquiry, learnt Haja was a vendor from Old Washermanpet. Further investigations are on.
