Among the various boarding schools in South India, St John's International Residential School (SJIRS) Chennai has topped the list in a recent survey report presented by International Market Research Bureau (IMRB) and Education World, a news magazine.
Announcing this at a press conference here recently, Senior principal Kishore Kumar said, 'the magazine has reported that IMRB surveyors has interviewed 908 selected parents, teachers and educators familiar with the Indian education to elicit their perceptions. Among 250 schools that were short listed, SJIRS topped the list for its global reputation, public opinion and parents choice', he said.
'The result of the survey has given us more responsibility to make note of all short comings and work hard to sustain the position', he said.
To provide hi-tech teaching methodology to students, the senior principal said the class rooms are provided with computer built-in podium for staff and a plasma TV screen to enable a visual learning experience.
He further said 'we have upgraded the library and improved the status to Central library by adding 7000 new volumes to the existing 8000 volumes.
This renovated library will be inaugurated by South India Director, British Council Chris Gibson on 10 September'. The department of Library and Information Science is also organising a symposium for city school librarians on the topic 'Library- It's influence in the school system of effective learning'.
Professor and Head of the Department of Information Science, University of Madras, A Amuthavalli and Educational Product Manager, Macmillan India Ltd, Manjula Duraiswamy will participate in the function.
He also said that the school would construct Dr G Rajkumar Athletic stadium at a cost of Rs 85 lakh soon.
Kishore Kumar further said
that as part of the international educational exchange programme initiated
by the ministry of education, Government of Singapore, students from Singapore
Kranji secondary school visited SJIRS.The objective of this programme was
to expose the students to different academic environment and cultures,
preparing them for the challenges of a globalised world.
