Communicable diseases hospital crowded

        The Chennai Corporation run Communicable Diseases Hospital (CDH) at Tondiarpet in north Chennai, is continuing to receive a large number of people suspected to be affected by Cholera.

        Heightening the anxiety among the medics in the city, in the last 24 hours more than a hundred persons were taken as in-patients at CDH as they showed signs and symptoms of Cholera.

        The surge of people with symptoms of cholera continued even today and blood samples have been sent for diagnosis. The death of Subramani a resident of Kodungayur in north Chennai of cholera who was rushed to the CDH at the last minute has shocked the people.

        Though, the incidence of cholera and other communicable diseases is nothing new, especially for north Chennai neighbourhoods, a sudden spurt in the number of people affected by acute diarrhoea and vomitting has caused anxiety among people.

        Speaking to News Today, a senior official in charge of Health and Sanitation in the Corporation of Chennai said that there was no need to worry or get panic. 'People need to take certain basic precautionary steps. Consumption of boiled water and food and keeping the hygiene clean will help prevent diseases like cholera,' he said.
