The Chennai City Traffic Police (CCTP) has decided to divert traffic to ease congestion in Saidapet and the roads leading to Velachery.
The changes, which are to be implemented on a trial basis, will be effective from 15 April to 15 May.
According to the press release, a study was made by a special team, which included college professors and social work students, to regularise the traffic flow on Anna Salai towards Velachery and vice-versa. The traffic flow on this stretch has swelled with the up gradation of the IT corridor.
The team came out with a few innovative ideas and suggestions. Based on the report, the traffic police would be diverting traffic along this stretch for a month on a trial basis.
With the traffic diversions, vehicles coming from Guindy towards Saidapet will be prevented from taking a right turn on Sardar Patel Road from Halda roundabout. Instead, the vehicles have to go straight and take a right turn at Chinnamalai junction on Taluk Office Road and take a right turn on Sardar Patel Road to reach Velachery.
Drivers going from Saidapet towards Guindy will be prevented from taking a right turn at Chinnamalai junction. Instead, they will be allowed to enter the Taluk Office Road, Sardar Patel Road and then go on to Anna Salai.
Vehicles from Velachery have to take left turn at Velachery junction to reach Halda junction then to Chinnamalai junction and later the vehicles have to take a right turn at Taluk Office Road to reach Sardar Patel Road, the release added.
Further three roads in the locality will be made one-way. On the Sardar Patel Road vehicles will be allowed to proceed only from east to west from Raj Bhavan till Halda junction.
On Anna Salai, vehicles will
only be allowed to proceed from south to north from the Halda junction
till Chinnamalai junction. On Taluk Office Road, the vehicles can move
only in one direction from Chinnamalai junction towards Raj Bhavan.
