Park at Anna Nagar to 'heal' walkers

Chennai Mayor M Subramanian at the acupressure awareness
exhibition held on Saturday at Anna Nagar.

        Chennai Mayor M Subramanian has announced that any one of the parks at Anna Nagar will be developed with a paved area filled with pebbles for the benefit of walkers.

        He said this while inaugurating a one-day acupressure awareness exhibition, organised by Renga Acupuncture and Yoga Social Health Education Development Trust, Shenoy Nagar, on the premises of the Anna Nagar A Block Ladies Association (AABLA), Anna Nagar, on Saturday.

        The Mayor said, 'With a view to enhancing health awareness among the park- users and to showcase the importance of walking on pebbles, which heal many ailments, the Chennai Corporation would develop any one of the parks at Anna Nagar with an area of not less than 1000 sq ft for the purpose'.

        This would be on a trial basis only, and depending on the success, it would be expanded to other areas also, Subramanian added.

        Speaking on the occasion, founder of the trust S Ravichandran appealed to the Mayor to introduce acupressure training to Corporation officials and also for Corporation School students, as his trust was ready to provide the training.

        After inaugurating the exhibition, the Mayor went through the portraits depicting various acupressure methods, charts on acupressure techniques and various methods to reduce hypertension and stress.

        Besides others, the function was attended by cardiologist V Chokalingam, Exnora's Sivakumar and local Councillor Elumalai.
