Riding high on Thoothukudi's success

        Choreographer-turned-hero Harikumar smelled instant success with his very first film Thoothukudi, where he played a gangster. Into his second production venture as a hero is Harikumar in Thirutham.

        Actress Priyanka, who made a splashing debut in Veyyil, is cast opposite him.

        Harikumar has choreographed more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The likes of Mammotty, Mohanlal, Dilip, Kunchacko Boban, Nagarjuna, Prabhas, Udaykiran, Jagapathibabu, Vijayakanth, Prasanna, Shaam, Dhanush and Arun Kumar had danced to his steps.

        For Thirutham, Harikumar has choreographed his own dance numbers to the tunes of Praveen Mani. Just back from a long schedule in Udhagamandalam, the happenings in that Hill place is the turning point of the movie. He plays a software engineer, toting a gun as his first line of defence.

        Of his decision to plunge in front of the camera, Harikumar said 'the passion to act was burning inside since my childhood. I would like to establish myself as an actor, who can do varied roles. Impressed with the storyline of Thoothukudi, I ventured into production convinced that I fitted in as hero.'

        Having learnt the nuances of production, Harikumar is game to meet the dual responsibility. 'Though it is not an easy job, there is the freedom which comes with it to churn out good movies.'

        The actor has enough offers coming his way but he is prefers to be choosy. ' I am in no hurry. More than the quantity, quality matters for me. In a competitive industry, you have to be consistent to sustain the place.

        Getting recognised for my acting skills in my maiden venture has put the added responsibility in my shoulders.'

        An admirer of Prabhudeva, Harikumar says, 'dancing is all about getting right movements and expressions. I sincerely believe that a skilled dancer can become a good actor.'
