        Burglars struck at two different places on the outskirts of Chennai and got away with valuables. In both the cases, the houses were locked and the inmates were away, police said.

        The robbers first broke into the house of one Sridhar, residing at Shanthi Nagar, Chromepet, while he was away in Bangalore. On his return this morning, he found the house broken into and 12 sovereigns of gold missing. Similarly Manikavasu from European Street, St Thomas Mount, employed as sanitary supervisor at Arakonam Municipality, had left for work yesterday when the culprits got in and stole five sovereigns of jewels, police said.
