Two motorcycle-borne men who were wanted in connection with several chain snatching incidents in Chennai and its suburbs were held at gun-point and 60 sovereigns were recovered from them.
The chain-snatching incidents were reported in Anna Nagar, Korukkupet, Kotturpuram and Thiruvanmiyur.
Following orders from Police Commissioner Letika Saran and Additional Commissioner S R Jangid, a special team was set up to track down the culprits. The squad swung into action and on learning that a two-wheeler had been kept at the Koyambedu bus terminus for a long time and later two persons had taken it to KK Nagar area, police personnel in the guise of fruit and vegetable vendors kept a close watch. In course of time, they spotted the said motorcycle parked in front of a house and later arrested two men there at gun-point.
Police said the two — Seenu
alias Burma Seenu (38) and Babu (21) were involved in various crimes and
the former had a hand in the burning of a jailor in Central Prison here.
The duo was said to be involved in several chain-snatching incidents.
