Defending champion Osmania defeated Anna 3-0 in the final of the South-West Zone inter-university tennis tournament, organised by Madras University, at Loyola College here yesterday. P C Vignesh gave Osmania the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over R Vasudevan, while Vishnu Vardhan, ranked number seven in India, overcame S Abhinav 6-1, 6-2. In the doubles. Vasudevan and Abhinav stretched Vishnu Vardhan and Vignesh before going down 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.
K Vaidyanathan, Dean (Education) and Head, Department of Physical Education, Annamalai University, gave away the prizes.
The All India inter-university tournament to be played on a knock-out basis and consisting of four semifinalists from South-West Zone and four other teams (Delhi, Punjab, Kolkata and Ahmedabad) will be held from 10 to 12 January.
