'CM should apologise for hurting Hindus'

NT Bureau
Chennai, Jan 9:

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today said a massive agitation would be launched against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi if he failed to apologise for the 'vulgar' remarks he made on Hindu deities.

He also said a temple for Lord Shiva should be built in the place of Santhome Church as the Christian shrine was erected after demolishing a Shiva temple in the 16th century.

Addressing media persons at the party headquarters here, Swamy said Karunanidhi had brought shame to the Chief Minister post by making dirty statements on Hindu deities in his recent speech and added that he should seek a public apology for that.

Swamy also wanted to know whether Karunanidhi was ready to instal Periyar EVR statues in front of mosques or churches.

Urging the Chief Minister to first inculcate atheism in his family members as they all were God-fearing, the Janata Party leader also said Karunanidhi should change the name of his son and State Minister Stalin into a Tamil word, if his love for the language was genuine.

On the Santhome Church, Swamy recalled the speech of Pope Benedict XVI that St Thomas never travelled to Chennai and said a Shiva temple should be built in that place.

Stating that the Centre had failed to control terrorism and violence in the country, Swamy asked for the immediate resignation of the Union government.

To a question on Mullaiperiyar issue, Swamy said he would soon hold discussions with farmers' association leaders in Madurai and would launch a protest against the carelessness of the Tamilnadu government.

Swamy also charged Karunanidhi with having a secret pact with the Kerala government in the interest of the Malayalam TV channels owned by his family members.

Subramanian Swamy also lent his full support to make President A P J Abdul Kalam to continue in the office for the second term.
