Thuppariyum Sambu, Devan's master piece work, a book that had a generation laughing and get a unique sense of humour, was released in a single book format at a function held at Sivakami Kalalaya Senior Higher Secondary School here yesterday.
The initiative was taken by Kizhaku publishing house in association with Devan Trust. Renowned artist Gopulu released the book and cartoonist and writer Madan received the first copy.
Speaking on the occasion, Gopulu said he was very proud to be associated with the great writer Devan. 'He lead a very simple life and was very keen to see his works as a book but it didn't happen when he was alive', Gopulu said and added that it was cartoonist Raju who first drew the imaginative picture of 'Sambu' —— with his sui generis long nose.
Cartoonist Madan said, 'Devan's involvement with the character 'Sambu' and the portrayal was very focused. Can anyone forget Sambu's nose and dhoti? His works are evergreen.'
Bhagyam Ramaswamy recalled his association with Devan and said the man was not treated properly when he was alive.
Addressing the gathering, Crazy Mohan said, 'Thuppariyum Sambu is the best example of Devan's imaginative power and capability. His humorous stories are my inspiration. He was very futuristic.'
'Kizhakku' publisher Badri Seshadri pointed out that soon Devan's other works like Justice Jagannathan, Sriman Sudarsanam, Mr Vedantham, CID Chandru would be published. He also unveiled plans for producing animation CDs on 'Thuppariyum Sambu' in 11 languages.

The cost of the book is Rs 300 and available at all leading outlets.
