Chennai Mayor M Subramanian today inspected slum tenements at Subbupillai Thottam in Saidapet and ordered construction of storm water drains in that area.
He instructed the officials concerned to remove the gymnasium located there and in that place, to construct a community hall. He also issued an order to upgrade the maternity hospital in that locality.
Also, instructions were given to set up a public toilet on Thidir Nagar and a park and concrete pavement on Bharathidasan Street. A Corporation school ground at Appavu Nagar would also be modernised.
The Mayor then visited Saidapet Bazaar Road and ordered the eviction of roadside vendors and sellers. Street lights would come up on this road at designated places. Opposition party leader in the Corporation Saidai
