Anna University Vice Chancellor D Viswanathan has stressed on the need to follow traffic rules to reduce road accidents which is on high.
Speaking at the 18th road road safety week function here recently, Viswanathan said around 1.4 lakh people get injured due to accidents everyday worldwide. 'In India, accidents takes place every minute and once in every six minutes a person meets with death in the age group between 18 and 40 years,' he said.
Speaking about the role of Anna University in reducing accidents, Viswanathan said 'vehicles entering into the university campus have been instructed to go on slow speed. Also, traffic signals has been installed in front of the campus to prevent accidents', he added. As part of social responsibility, the university has been conducting several campaigns and conferences to bring awareness among the people on road safety measures, the Vice Chancellor said. Tamilnadu Commissioner for Transport, C P Singh insisted for immediate trauma care to reduce the number of death caused due to accidents.
