Failure only spurs you to turn the equation next time, said actor Vijay. Aware of his fans' expectations, the Pokkiri is confident of the harvest to be reaped to atone for the relative failure of Aathee.
Every time the expectation has to be a cracking entertainer, something Vijay has no complaints.
'The typecast syndrome does not bug me so long my movies rake in the profit for the producer and everyone is benefited. Each time the responsibility shoots to a higher plane, precisely the challenge to motivate me. When you know you have to make amends, it is that much tougher but I am game for that.'
Plunging for a successful Telugu remake is in order for Vijay. 'When the prescription is clear of the dosage of gaana songs, fight sequences, a sprinkle of comedy and the prescribed punch lines, you have a clear job at hand. The contents have to be in the right mix for the mass appeal.'
The actor who has been in the showbiz industry for more than a decade now, says he has a greater responsibility as his fans expect a cracking entertainer from him now.
'I am confident that Pokkiri (a Telugu remake) would make it big', says Vijay, who has emerged a star to reckon with in the industry.
He has a special liking for typical 'masala' movies with a prescribed pattern of 'gaana' songs, stylish fight scenes, comedies, and punch dialogues.
Waiting for the release and audience verdict, Vijay opened his heart to share his feelings before the all important day. In that prevalent mood, he stretched a bit to look further.
Q: Why did you opt for a Telugu remake again?
A: Not keen on only remakes. After Aathee, was on the look out for a script with enough ammunition on entertainment. The original had all the contours of a racy script suiting my image. Without the involvement, would not go ahead. Then there were the big names of Prabhudeva, Nirav Shah and Mani Sharma as added motivation.
Q: Describe Pokkiri?
A: Pokkiri is a youth taking life as it comes. He is a bravado fighting for a cause. We have done our best in sticking to the original with slight modifications for the Tamil audience. Simply followed Prabhudeva's body language in the movie.
Q: Expectations are on a feverish pitch of you and Prabhudeva combining. Did the pressure factor play in your mind?
A: You all know the prowess of Prabhudeva as a dancer. I too have a reputation on that score. So I leave it you to surmise the audience expectations. He encouraged me in every step and you will see the results on screen.
Q: How do you feel on being typecast as 'mass hero'?
A: It was my desire to be branded as an action hero. Having taken that stance, there is no room for complaints. So long the film sells, it is what counts. My next Azhagiya Thamizhmagan would be a hilarious entertainer.
Q: Running behind success, how do you cope up with stress?
A: There is stress in every profession. It creates a fear in us to do better every time. It helps one to run the race successfully.
Q:Comment on your contemporaries in the industry?
A: I watch almost all the movies. Admire Ajith for his self-confidence, Surya for his dedication and versatile ways while Vishal is all promise. I consciously treat every movie as the debut film and do my best.
