JSW Steel Ltd has registered a 30 per cent growth in the production of crude steel for the month of February 2007, inspite of shut down of one of the furnaces due to accidental fire.
The break-up of production is crude steel 2.36 lakh tonnes (30 per cent growth over Feb 2006); HR coils 2.06 lakh tonnes (27 per cent); HR plates 0.20 lakh tonnes (103 per cent); galvanised steel 0.60 lakh tonnes (-7 per cent); and pre-painted GI 0.07 lakh tonnes (167 per cent).
The volume growth is achieved across all products, except galvanised steel. The 1.3 MTPA expanded project that was commissioned in November 2006 was operating at 80 per cent capacity. The work on re-commissioning the furnace, shut down in February 2007 for repairs, is now in full swing and expected to go on stream in April.
