Chennai, Mar 9:
Playing it safe, Tamilnadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president M Krishnaswamy today reiterated that though the party yearned to be in the government in Tamilnadu, it was for DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to take a final decision on the matter.
Addressing mediapersons here, the TNCC president said they had conveyed the aspirations of the Congress workers with regard to power- sharing to the party high command.
'It's only just and fair,' Krishnaswamy said on the stand of the party workers that they be accommodated in the government. However, the DMK president and Congress supremo alone could take a final call on the matter.
On the gazette notification of the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), Krishnaswamy said that till the time to appeal against the final award expired it was not possible to publish the award in the gazette. 'If that was done, we will not get justice on some provisions of the final verdict which is considered as going against the interests of the State,' the TNCC president said and added that till the time of notification of final award, the interim award provisions would prevail.
Commenting on the arrest of three men in Chennai with alleged connections to the LTTE, the Congress leader said that they were quite happy about the performance of the Tamilnadu police in apprehending those with connections with the banned organisations.
When asked about the much delayed list of the new office- bearers for the State unit of the party, he said it would be released on or before 20 April. The interests of true party workers would be protected.
On 11 March, an explanatory meeting on the Union Budget would be held at Kamaraj Arangam. Finance Minister P Chidambaram would address the gathering and several other senior party leaders are scheduled to address the meet.
In connection with the Mahatma
Gandhi Satyagraha centenary celebrations, a special photo exhibition on
the Father of the Nation would be inaugurated here by Union Minister Ambika
Soni, Krishnaswamy said.
