'Be strong, don't lose confidence during adversity' was the message given to women on the occasion of International Women's Day by the first women Commissioner of Chennai Police Letika Saran here yesterday.
Addressing women from various women's organisations at the Commissionerate, Letika said, 'women face many problem in society both combating profession and family life yet she tackles it and achieves success in all her endeavours.
'Women never neglect their homes under the pretext of going to work. A woman's home is still her life and soul. She makes her home beautiful, bears all responsibilities of her family and meets the demands of social life, balancing her own workload all the time with domestic duties'. 'With all this work the woman carries on her struggle for emancipation, for nothing is ever attained without a struggle', she added.
She further said. 'there was once a situation where women were reluctant to address their grievances to male police personnel but now with setting up of 35 all- women police stations in Chennai, they were able to speak out their problems and solve them amicably.
Letika also urged NGOs and other Self- Help Groups (SHG) to approach women in distress and solve the issue within the community, so that cases reported in the police stations could be decreased.
