Chennai, Mar 9:
Eelam National Democratic Liberation Front (ENDLF) yesterday demanded direct intervention of the India 'military' to bring about an early solution to the Sri Lankan crisis.
Addressing a press conference here, Nesan, central committee member of the party, said, 'the ceasefire agreement signed between Sri Lankan government and LTTE in 2002 is defunct.
They are now engaged in an undeclared war. As the rebel lacks capability to withstand air strike of the Army, the government side pushing the LTTE out. But what would happen in case of an all-out war, if the LTTE is totally eliminated, the government would forcefully impose 'victor justice' on Tamils.'
'The war will have disastrous consequences not just for the Sri Lankan Tamils but for India and the entire South Asian region,' he said.
The involvement of Pakistani forces in the training of Lankan Armed Forces and more, dangerously, in the training of Muslim groups would strategically weaken India on the southern side, Nesan said.
'We want concerted and unified efforts of political parties in Tamilnadu which could exert pressure on the Central government for armed intervention by India,' he said.
Responding to a query, Nesan said, 'We do not want to see LTTE controlling the Tamil Eelam where there would be no democracy or pluralism.
That's why we demand Indian intervention so that LTTE's role could be minimised. Even though the rebel group maintains the Tamil identity in the war-torn country, we want a democratic State.'
The party's central committee
members Ram Raj, Jenny and Vaseekaran were also present during the press
meet.
