NT Bureau
Chennai, May 9:

Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson with Rotary officials in Chennai yesterday.

'NGOs and other voluntary organisations working with tsunami victims must promote sustainable growth and rehabilitation,' said Rotary International president Wilfrid Wilkinson, while briefing the media yesterday about his organisation's plans for India with special focus on Tamilnadu.

'I will be visiting areas such as Suleri, Kattu Kuppam, Kanathur and Kanathur villages, where the Rotary International has done commendable work in rehabilitating those affected by the tsunami,' said the president elect.

Wilfred hailed the measles eradication programme undertaken by Rotary International as a path breaking effort.

Rotary International district governor 3230 J B Kamdar said that complete eradication of polio from India would be the Club's first priority.

He said that he could not reveal the figures of the total expenditure incurred for their welfare activities due to the lack of a unified accounting system.

He also talked about the interest shown by developed countries in funding social welfare activities in the third world countries through genuine voluntary organisations.
