Chennai, Oct 9:
A total of 11 persons were killed and many injured in two different mishaps that occurred in various parts of Tamilnadu early today.
In a fateful incident which took toll of six lives, a bus heading towards Chennai from Madurai hit a lorry which was standing on the roadside on Trichy-Chennai National Highway at Chepakkam at 1 am.
Six persons including an officer of the State Transport Corporation died in the accident. The names of the victims were given as: Vijayakumar (55), Sonaimuthu (50), Valliammai (55), Jeevarathinam (50) and Thenmozhi (45). It is said that identity of another deceased was not known. Seven others with injuries were admitted to a nearby government hospital. Veppur police has filed a case and conducting further investigations.
In the other accident, which took place at Kosappet in Dharmapuri district, two lorries collided head-on. The mishap occurred when driver of a lorry tried to avoid an oncoming tourist bus.
Five persons, all drivers
and labourers of the two lorries, died in the mishap. Their names were
given as: Rathinam (45), Palanisamy (30), Selvam (35), Anbu and Srinivasan.
Also, the driver of the tourist bus was injured. Thoppur police have filed
a case.
