        A 65-year-old gardener stabbed a 35-year-old maid for rejecting his marriage proposal and later surrendered at the Kodambakkam police station. The gardener Mahalingam, police said, employed in a house on Arcot Road, Kodambakkam developed a liking towards Renuka Devi, a cook at the same house.

        When he approached her with a marriage proposal, she is said to have rejected his request. Angered over this, he stabbed her with a knife and surrendered before the police with a blood -stained knife. Renuka who sustained serious injuries was admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital.
