NLC to get mega power projects

        Ultra mega power projects will be commissioned to meet out the power demand during Eleventh and Twelfth Plans, S Jayaraman, chairman and managing director of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has said.

        Speaking at a two-day seminar on 'Thermal power generation technologies - The emerging scenario', organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Neyveli here recently, Jayaraman pointed out that the power industries were undergoing changes in terms of technology, capacity addition, commercial and regulatory mechanisms.

        K Srinivasa Rao, member secretary of Southern Regional Power Committee, Bangalore was the chief guest. He complimented the role played by the NLC in the southern and central power sectors.

        Rao also said that the NLC with its expertise and exposure in power plants can bring out new projects in Tuticorin, Rajasthan, Orissa and Neyveli in order to meet the power demand of the country.

        A souvenir was released by Rao on the occasion and the first copy was received by Jayaraman.

        V Sethuraman, director (Power) in his inaugural address pointed out that 50 per cent of the power required during the Eleventh and Twelfth Plans would be met by the thermal power stations.

        P Babu Rao, director (Personnel) also spoke on the occasion.
