Hansen ventures into India

Chennai, Feb 11:

        Hansen Transmissions, a Belgium-based gearbox production company has announced the launch of manufacturing unit in India. The production plant will supply gear boxes to wind turbine manufacturers in the Indian and International markets.

        Briefing about the new initiative here recently, chief executive officer of Hansen Transmissions, Ivan Brems,said, 'The unit is to be set up with an investment of euro170 million in Coimbatore. The factory will reach its full production capacity with an output of 1,500 to 2,000 gear boxes per annum by early 2010'.

        Ivan said that the manufacturing plant will make use of the same production equipment and processes that are used in Belgian plants.The project is slated to be operational by the end of 2008. The production from this fully integrated manufacturing plant will serve mainly for domestic purpose.

        Significantly, Hansen Transmission is the world second leading gearbox and drive train manufacturer and has a global presence in wind energy market with installations in many countries including USA, Europe, India and in China.
