Action if charges were true: CM

NT Bureau
Chennai, Feb 11:

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today promised appropriate action against senior police official Shakeel Akthar if allegations against him were proved true or if the Central government or its intelligence agenices apprised the State government about it.

In an official release here, the Chief Minister wondered why the AIADMK chief had not supported her allegations with due evidences if her charges against the senior official were true.

Faulting Jayalalithaa for 'lying' that the Tamilnadu government had appointed him 'overnight' Karunanidhi said Shakeel was relieved from Union services on 22 January and requistioned State duty on 1 February and he was appointed on 6 February.

Karunanidhi also said the State had never made all India service officials like the IAS to wait for months or weeks together for appointment under State services and cited several instances to demonstrate that it was true.

'It was the style of the AIADMK chief to place officials under compulsory waiting list, indefinitely. But the DMK government strives to appoint officials as soon as possible,' the release added.
