near Teynampet.

In a bid to ensure smooth and safe ride for motorists, the Chennai City Traffic police have introduced four-lane traffic system on Anna Salai from the DMS office to the Nandanam junction from yesterday.
The four-lane traffic system is already in place between the Anna Statue and Whites Road since May 1998. This had not only prevented accidents to a great extent but also enabled motorists to keep to the marked lanes. And keeping this in mind, the traffic police extended the facility up to Nandanam junction, on an experimental basis.
However, some stretches between the DMS office and Nandanam have been identified as narrow. Thus, motorists who could not adhere to the four-lane facility, could make use of the lane crossing area marked on the road.
According to statistics,
last year alone 108 two-wheeler riders have been killed involving MTC buses.
It is also said that the vehicles will move at a maximum speed of 35km
and hoped all the motorists would adhere to. At Teynampet, near Anna Arivalayam
the men-in-khakis were seen regulating the motorists. A senior official
referring to the system extending from Teynampet upto Nandanam said it
is welcome as it could further segregate vehicles of different sizes.
