Is life after cancer possible? Yes, certainly. Cancer Survivors' Day, being celebrated every year during the second Saturday of February, symbolised the birth of a new life thanks to the efforts taken by the Vasantha Memorial Trust for organising a programme, here, today.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramanathan, managing trustee, said the objective of the programme was to create awareness on cancer among people, shattering the myths associated with the disease and prompting patients to take treatment in order to fight confidently.

'The trust, founded in 1993 after my mother died of cancer, has sponsored 232 patients with varied cancer', he said, adding that they were operating from Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Bangalore mainly focusing on children with blood cancer and women with breast cancer.

He also said that this was the fifth year in row and second year in Chennai that the trust has conducted such a programme. So far, the trust has conducted 80 detection camps.

Among the people who have conquered the disease, many, with aplomb and confidence, shared their success in fighting against the disease thereby motivating other patients.

Earlier, GKR Charities, the event sponsor, trustee Priya Muralidharan along with TV personality Bharath Kalyan and the cancer survivors lit the ceremonial lamp.

Cultural programmes were also performed by survivors, college students and volunteers.

Such a celebration is the need of the hour for an individual alone can't take up the fight against disease but it's a whole lot of people to win over the disease.-0--C-GKR Charities trustee Priya Muralidharan along with a child survivor lighting a ceremonial lamp during Cancer Survivors' Day celebrations in Chennai today.
