        AIADMK general secretary and leader of the opposition, J Jayalalithaa, has announced a solatium of Rs.25,000 to the family of Christopher, the Pamban fisherman who died yesterday, after being shot at by the Sri Lankan Navy.

        In a statement here today, Jayalalithaa said injustice is being done to the fishermen of the State and pointed to the recent spate of killing of fisherfolk at the hands of the island navy.

        'I strongly condemn the State and the Central governments for not preventing the attack against our fishermen and for not showing interest in their welfare,' the AIADMK chief said and added that Rs.5,000 would be given to Wilfer and Dasan, fishermen who received bullet injuries at the Lankan firing. 'My prayers are with them,' Jayalalithaa said.
