M R Sangeetha, last year's champion, is in sole lead with 6.5 points at the end of the seventh round of the 25th Rachel Paranjothy Women's Chess tournament, being held at Ethiraj College here.
Sangeetha on the top table had an easy time against S Arthy Sri of SRDK Vivekananda Vaidyalaya in the penultimate round yesterday.
Earlier in the morning match, she was pushed to the limit by R Bharathi of Bakthavachalam School.
Iswarya Shobana of MOP Vaishnav College won in the morning and held the upper hand against J Mohanapriya of Modern Senior in the evening. However, she was unable to find the win and thus allowed Sangeetha grab the lead.
