        G Santhosh Kumar and M Kushboo emerged victorious in the boys and girls under-16 events respectively in the Madras Cements-Children's Club 13th Open chess tournament for boys and girls held here.

        M A Lathecka Sai of Vidya Mandir won the girls under-8 event with a 7/7 score, while M Mahalakshmi took the girls Under-10 crown with a 7/7 record while J Saranya topped in the under-12 section with a cent per cent score.

        To mark the diamond jubilee of the club, an endowment in memory of late Pattu Balagopal and T B Balagopal was instituted this year so that all the 10 champions to receive Rs 300 each. The club also honoured M Mahalakshmi, who finished third in world girls Under-8 event.

        C V Narasimhan, former Director, CBI, distributed prizes to the winners.

        K V Ramanathan, president of the club, also spoke.
