It is often said all roads go to Rome. Here in Chennai, it's all roads to ongoing Delhi Street Food festival at Jewel's India Hotels Pvt Ltd, Nungambakkam.
Christened as 'Dilli Ki Galli', the festival gives you a chance to taste the best of foods from the streets of Delhi ranging from parathas to pulaos.
Led by a team of expert chefs, there are over 100 dishes of which 25 are served on a daily basis. Speaking about the festival, senior chef Amar Singh says it took them one month to select the items and 20 chefs were involved in the preparation of food.
To start with, one can opt the chaat counter which serves aloo ke kullee, gol gappas, arvi ki chaat and dahi bhallee. Then, there are tawa items like matar ki tikki, besan ka chilla, ram ladoo and keema samosa.
For Chennaiites, parathas being the most sought-after, the festival offers a variety of papad paratha, methi paratha, gobi paratha and matar paratha that go well with gravy such as kadhi pakodi, rajma rasmisa, kake di chicken curry and mutton ishtoo. Not to miss are the side dishes of boti kebab and tandoori murgh.
Also available are the mouthwatering pulaos including the hara pulao, mutton pulao and yakhni pulao that make a good meal. Last comes the sweet dishes of moong dal halwa and kulfi falooda. Make sure you enter the paan counter before leaving the place.
Throwing light on the festival, Sunil Chawla, general manager, Jewel's India Hotels Pvt Ltd, says, the festival brings a mix of culture and now being winter, everyone prefers hot items.
The special buffet is open from Monday to Friday between 7.30 pm and 11 pm. They are priced at Rs 250 (plus tax) for vegetarian and Rs 350 (plus tax) for non- vegetarian. The festival is on till 26 January.
Cool ambience with shades of java green and bright red, filled with the aroma of Asian and International delicacies from the open kitchen would definitely whet one's appetite who passes by the newly opened restaurant Zyng Asian at Chennai Citi Centre.
Speaking to reporters here recently, business head, ETA Star, a division of ETA Ascon group and general Star Kitchen India Pvt Ltd, said, ' unlike other restaurants, Zyng offers a whole new experience in fine dining, which is cool, hip and fun. Our prime focus is to create a whole new dimension for healthy eating. With best of ingredients the customer can create their own Asian market bowl, a signature dish, by selecting from over 15 vegetables, 12 signature sauces, 6 noodles or rice with chicken, lamb, shrimp, tofu or zoya. Besides this outlet, we plan to open two more branches in the country by this year.'
With more than Rs 2 crore invested, this eatout is spread over 4000 sq ft which has a seating capacity of 130. Separated by a glass partition the Zyng has an interactive kitchen where every meal is prepared before the guest's eye and the restaurant serves distinct, freshly prepared rice dishes, noodles, desserts, appetisers from Asia. Apart from these delicacies from Thailand, dishes from Mongolia, Vietnam, Korea and Japan are also available. It serves an average meal for two at Rs 700.
