        An auto-driver and a youth, who took advantage of a lost teenaged girl and tried to outrage her modesty, have been arrested by the police while the girl has been handed over to a women's welfare home.

        The teen, who hails from a village near Devakottai, left her house and came to Chennai one-and-a-half years ago as she did not want to be burden on her parents who have five daughters. On reaching the city, she took up a job of a servant maid in a house in Zackaria Colony at Choolaimedu.

        As she found the job tough she left her employer's house and intended to go to her uncle's house at Chromepet. Not knowing the route, she was standing on the Kodambakkam overbridge when one Manivannan enquired, she asked him to leave her at Chromepet.

        The man promised her to take her there the next day morning as it was already dark. So saying he took her to a house at Vysarpadi where he tried to misbehave with her and when she cried, Manivannan took her back to Kodambakkam, gave her his cellphone number and asked her to contact him if she wanted any help.

        Then, an auto-driver Sekar (42) came to her and asked what was her problem. She told him she wanted to go to Chromepet.

        He said he would take her there but he took her elsewhere and got her tea and made advances. She resisted and asked him to take her back to Manivannan at Vyasarpadi.

        But Manivannan expressed his inability saying he was at Mogappair and could not come.

        Meanwhile, a provision storekeeper took pity on the girl and informed a voluntary organisation.

        Jabaraj from the organisation took her to an all-women police station at T Nagar. And based on her report, the police arrested the auto-driver and Manivannan who tried to molest her.

        Later, the girl was handed over to a women's welfare home and her parents were informed.
