Chennai, Jan 12:
Three houses were burgled in the dead of the night in suburban Pazhavanthangal and 50 sovereigns of gold, Rs 30,000 in cash were stolen. It is suspected that a seven-member gang had committed the crime.
Police said Sridhar, an industrialist, residing on Bharathiyar Street was fast asleep after going to bed at 12.30 am after which the robbers struck.
The thieves gained entry through by removing the window grille and had bolted from the outside the room where Sridhar and his family members were sleeping. In another room, the robbers found two almirahs with the keys on them.
They opened and took away the gold and cash. They went out through the same window and removed the grille of the next house where Assamese students were staying. There, they found one suitcase with cash totalling Rs 10,000.
Then they gained entry into the owner of the building on the same apartment and as they could not open the almirah they left stealthily.
The victims lodged a complaint
with the Pazhavanthangal police station. Sniffer dog was requisitioned
but it went up to some distance and did not proceed further. Fingerprint
experts dusted the place over and found seven persons' prints.
