Son murders mom

NT Bureau
Kancheepuram, Jan 12:

A body of a woman with a broken neck and tied to a gunny bag was exhumed near her house at Thenneri Ottankudisai at Wallajahbad and sent to Chengalpet Government Hospital for postmortem.

Villagers allege that her younger son Sudhakar, 25, was behind the murder as he used to torture his wife and mother for money to consume liquor. The deceased Nagammal, 55, has two sons — Sudhakar and Arjun — and two daughters, Kuppammal and Ponni. Two daughters got married and settled down in Chennai. While the elder son, Arjun is working as a lorry driver at Koyambedu, his younger sibling Sudhakar is employed as a lorry cleaner at Thenneri.

Married four months ago, Sudharakar had frequent quarrels with his wife, who had quit the house recently to join with her parents at Chengalpet. A habitual drinker, Sudhakar reportedly used to berate and even assault his mother Nagammal as she denied him money to consume liquor.

When the village administrate officer (VAO) Natarajan came and enquired about Nagammal for a door-to-door enumeration for voter's photo ID card, neighbours revealed that she was not to be found in the last two days and that her younger son might be the reason as he fought with her regularly for money.

Disturbed by the foul smell emanating from the house, Natarajan grew suspicious and informed the police. Wallajahbad Inspector Devarajan visited and inspected the house. Finding a dug-out patch on the compound, the police excavated the area and found the body of Nagammal with a constricted neck in a gunny bag.

The body was sent to Chengalpet Hospital for postmortem. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. As Sudhakar was not seen for the last two days, neighbours have reportedly briefed the police that they have suspicion on him as he was used to torture Nagammal for money to have liquor. Further investigation is on.
