Rameswaram Ram Setu Protection Movement (RRSPM) organised an international seminar on scientific, economic, socio-cultural and security aspects of Setu Samudram Channel Project (SSCP) here today.
Inaugurating the seminar, RRSPM Convenor D Kuppuramu said that the experts, with scientific and spiritual backgrounds, would highlight the necessity of protecting Ram Setu which would subsequently attract more organisations to come forward to support the movement.
'Beliefs and sentiments of the people on this issue should be respected and honoured,' he said and added that only awareness among the people on the issue would help strengthen the Ram Sethu movement.
Referring to various setbacks the government faced while dredging for SSCP, Kuppu Ramu said that no harm would happen to Ram Setu since it is being protected by Hanuman.
He also said that people, irrespective of caste and religion, have been demonstrating at village and district levels to protect Ram Setu.
Later he released a book titled 'Rama Setu' - and the first copy of it was received by retired Judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Parvatha Rao.

Hariharan Balakrishnan, first chairman of Tuticorin Port Trust, V Sundaram, IAS (Retd), Former Senior Executive, Asian Development Bank and Director, Saraswati Research Centre S Kalyanaraman, Tamilnadu secretary of Akhila Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samiti, scholar TV Rangarajan.
