        Delivering the eleventh endowment lecture 'Knowledge management for Competitive advanta-ge' organised by the Nati-onal Institute of Personnel Management here yester-day, he said that the weste-rn countries had an effici-ent way of documenting and codifying the various knowledge they have acquired over the years and added that knowledge management has brought in enorom-ous success to IT industry.

        The top executive also stated that the introduction of the printing technology has had a path-breaking impact on the knowledge industry and drove home the point that discipline on the part of the students of management was the need of the hour to succeed in their chosen endeavours. Santhanam pointed out that the usage of statistical tools to convert data into information has significantly enhanced the control system.

        A K Balyan, director, (HR), ONGC, said that a company has to evolve it's unique knowledge mana-gement methodologies to survive the tough internati-onal competitions and added that knowledge management sector could be used specifically to suit the individual's prime requirements.
