Chennai, Dec 15:
Four women, who were allegedly smuggling 100 bags of rice in an EMU bound to Gummudipoondi from Central Station last evening, have landed in police net.
The foursome was caught when railway police were engaged in a routine check. What gave rise to suspicion was that the bags each containing 60 kg of rice were hindering the free exit and entry of the commuters.
The arrested were Selvi (27), Deviammal (50), Chengammal (31) and Arani (31) of Gummudipondi.
Interrogation revealed that
the rice was being smuggled to Sulurpettai in Andhra. Apart from seizing
the rice, police are enquiring as to where they were procured.
