Big time racing back in Kovai

Chennai, Feb 15:

        Meco Motorsports in association with the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, has introduced another first of its kind, racing event on 17 and 18 February. It will be a National event with Asian Zone participation. More than 10 drivers from Sri Lanka are expected to battle it out with the seasoned Indian drivers.

        According to a press note here, the first two races in the morning will be two 10-lap sprint races in the Formula LGB-Esteem single seater racing cars. The afternoon session will witness the two-hour endurance race. The endurance race will have two classes — the Formula LGB-Esteem class and the Formula LGB-Hyundai class.

        Leading names like Romani De Silva, Dinesh Jayawardene, Rohan De Silva, Susantha Gunawardane, Rikaz Khalid, Dilan Seneviratne, Shehara Jayawardene, Bri Ponnambalam, Nalin Gunasekara, Buddhika De Silva, Reyaz Farouk and Devinda De Silva feature in the Sri Lankan team.

        The Indian drivers for the Sprint race are Gaurav Dalal, Anand Prasad, GR Shankar Narayanan and Sudanand Daniel while Karner Christian of Germany would be a star attraction.

        The Indian driver teams for the Endurance Race: Akkineni Anand Prasad & Aditya Akkineni (Team Gemini-Meco Racing); Ashwin Sundar & Gaurav Dalal (Team Gemini-Meco Racing); GR Shankar Naraynan & Sudanand Daniel (Meco Racing); Karner Christian & Ayub Khan (Meco Racing);

        Karan Goenka and Anand Phillar (Meco Racing); B Vijaykumar & Sanjay Balu (Prime Racing); Sivakumar & Fazal Khan (Prime Racing).

        The winners will walk away with trophies and a free training programme conducted by Meco Motorsports in the Formula Rolon-Chevrolet, Formula LGB-Hyundai and Formula LGB-Swift cars.

        Armaan Ebrahim will be the chief guest for the meet.

        The race meet is being promoted and organised by Meco Motorsports Pvt Ltd. The event is being co-sponsored by JK Tyres and LG Sports. JK Tyre will be supplying the racing tyres to the participants free of charge.
