Chennai, Feb 15:
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is all set to observe a one-day token fast on 19 February at Dindivanam, condemning the action of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in constructing the Dindivanam bus terminus on the bed of a lake.
In a statement, the party's general secretary and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has condemned the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) also for joining hands with the DMK on this issue.
Quoting the government order that does not permit the encroachment of a lake or pond, she said that the DMK government was violating the law by setting up a bus terminus there.
She further said that when her government was in power, a six-acre land belonging to the Tamilnadu Wakf Board had been leased for the bus terminus and Rs 4.51 crore has been allotted for its construction. However, when the DMK came to power no steps were taken in that direction.
'Though a stay has been issued
by the Madras High Court, the Dindivanam Municipality superceded it and
passed a resolution that the bus terminus could be built on the lake site,'
she stated.
