LTTE men caught with arms grilled all night

Chennai, Feb 15:

        Five persons, including LTTE cadre, who were caught near Kodikarai yesterday with arms and ammunition were grilled throughout the night and shocking revelations have come out.

        Meanwhile, coastal district Superintendents of Police held discussions with State Director General of Police Mukherjee. It was decided to further strengthen the vigil along the coastal areas in the wake of the arrest of men.

        Of the arrested, Ramachandran hailing from Tamilnadu and the others Arumainayagam, Purushothaman, Sahayam, Arumugham and Sivapadmanabhan were from Sri Lanka and one among them had LTTE connection, it was learnt.

        They were brought to Chennai and were being interrogated all night by the Q branch police and Central Intelligence Bureau. The police extracted shocking news from them.

        It was revealed that the LTTE had stored arms on Iranai island near Sri Lanka and whenever required the Tigers used to shift them to the areas under their control.

        Similarly when they were carrying the destructive substances they were shot at by Sri Lankan Naval force and in order to escape from them they intruded into Indian seas and thus were caught by the Indian Coast Guard.

        In the first phase of enquiry, it was learnt that Ramachandran used to supply edible items to the LTTE.

        The satellite phone and its use to them were being probed. Who were all contacted by the phone and wherefrom it came were being investigated. The police also wanted to know those persons from Tamilnadu who helped the LTTE.

        Coast Guard ship Ramadevi, when patrolling Palk Straits intercepted at 27 nautical miles into the sea a fibre boat under suspicious circumstances.

        When the boat was subjected to thorough check, provisions such as rice, sugar, potato, cereals, salt and coconuts were found in it as also an AK 56 rifle and 125 bullets, five country bombs, suicide bomber's jacket with explosives filled, chemicals and a satellite phone. The Coast Guard ship crew immediately seized them and arrested the five men on the boat.
