Chennai, Feb 15:
The cadres of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) would observe a one-day fast here on 17 February to urge the State and Central governments to protect the rights of Tamilnadu in the Cauvery issue and also ensure the safety of Tamils living in Karnataka.
In a release here today, MDMK chief Vaiko said the hunger strike would be led by him and wanted the Karnataka, Tamilnadu and the Union governments to initiate appropriate action to protect Tamils in Karnataka.
'In the wake of the final award, Tamilnadu has lost its rights over the Cauvery.
In these circumstances, the
stand of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that the award was fair is nothing
but betrayal of the State's interests,' Vaiko said and alleged that the
protests and agitations from different quarters in Karnataka over the final
award was because of the stand of the Chief Minister.
