Corpn schools fare better this time

        Corporation schools in the city have registered a pass percentage of 81.8 in the Plus Two examinations, thus improving the record by 11 per cent from the previous year.

        According to a release, out of 5,001 students who appeared for the exams, 4,089 students had passed all the subjects.

        The Corporation schools also achieved a milestone of registering higher pass percentage than the State average of 81 per cent.

        Purasawalkam Corporation Boys HSS topped the list with a pass percentage of 94.7, followed by Madhavaram Girls HSS with 94.2 per cent.

        With a total aggregate of 1130 marks, P S Induja of Nungambakkam Girls HSS got the highest mark among students of Corporation schools. Another student P Hemalatha of Madhavaram Girls HSS came second with 1115 marks.

        In a statement, Mayor M Subramanian said that first 25 students who were being admitted to Medicine and Engineering courses would be given a scholarship of Rs 25,000 every year until they finish the degree. Financial assistance would also be provided to the students enrolling in nursing, teaching, B Sc, B Com, B B A and B C A courses.

        He said an announcement in this regard was made in the annual budget of the Corporation, following a direction from the Local Administration Minister M K Stalin.
